Some standout salient points for those without the time to read it: -The data is clear, only one very small demographic of the population has been shown to benefit from statin use - men who have already had a heart attack. This despite the US just expanding the guidelines so 70 million more people will fall under the umbrella of at risk and in need of statins. - From this group, only 1 person in 82 will experience any benefit from statin use. - Data strongly suggests that the reason why this 1/83 person benefits is likely due to anti-inflammatory effect of the statin rather than cholesterol lowering effects. In other words, cholesterol has nothing to do with it. - The negative side-effects of statin use are VASTLY under-reported (big surprise considering a huge % of the studies are bank-rolled by the same companies selling the pills) and range from fatigue, vitamin deficiencies, muscle wasting, increased diabetes risk, depression and suicide, amongst others.
