STATS FROM THE 2013/14 PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON. 0 – Luis Suárez failed to score in any of his six matches versus the top four. 0 – David Moyes is still yet to win at Anfield in the Premier League. His Manchester United lost 1-0 to Liverpool this season meaning his record is now 0W 6D 6L. 0 – David Moyes is 0W 2D 3L in the Premier League when drawing at half-time as Manchester United manager. 0 – Brendan Rodgers is still yet to beat Chelsea in the Premier League: P7 D3 L4 1 – Crystal Palace avoided relegation for the first time at their fifth attempt. The Eagles were bottom of the league in November when Tony Pulis took charge. 1 – Stoke City finished in the top half for the first time in their sixth Premier League season. Crystal Palace now hold the record for most seasons without a top half finish, having finished in the bottom half on all five of their Premier League seasons. 1 – Sunderland Jozy Altidore scored just 1 goal in 30 Premier League appearances this season. It came in a 3-4 home loss to Chelsea. The USA international has now only scored 2 goals in 58 Premier League appearances in his career. 1 – Asmir Begović was Stoke City’s joint-top Premier League goalscorer after 10 games this season. The Potters goalkeeper scored after just 13 seconds against Southampton with a wind assisted long punt up field that caught out Saints goalkeeper Artur Boruc. Peter Couch ended the season as the Potters’ top scorer, with 8 goals. 1 – Aston Villa were the only visiting team to win at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League this season. Paul Lambert’s side were 3-1 winners in their opening game of the season. Arsène Wenger’s side then went the rest of the season unbeaten at home. 1 – Manchester United won just 1 of their 12 matches versus the top 6 this season, all under David Moyes. Last season, Sir Alex Ferguson’s champions only won 4 of their 12 matches versus the top 6. 2 – James Wilson + Adnan Januzaj both scored braces on their full Premier League debuts for Manchester United. They both entered the top 10 chart for Manchester United’s youngest Premier League goalscorers. 2 – Sunderland did the double over Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby for the first time in the twelve seasons they have been in the Premier League together. 2 – Newcastle managed just 2 goals in 12 Premier League matches in which loan striker Loïc Rémy did not play. 3 – Harry Kane has more Premier League goals in open play than Roberto Soldado this season. The young English striker made 9 appearances (5 starts) to score 3 goals, compared to the Spaniard’s 26 (22 starts) who scored 2 goals in open play as well as 4 penalties. 3 – Stoke City scored with all 3 of their shots on target during their 3-2 victory over Chelsea. Goalkeeper Petr Čech not making a single save for visitors. Cech went 3 consecutive games without getting his gloves dirty. 3 – Manchester City’s 3-2 win at Everton in May was only the Citizens’ third win in their 17 visits to Goodison Park during the Premier League era. 3 – There were only 3 Welshmen who started the first-ever Premier League Welsh derby. Craig Bellamy was Cardiff’s sole Welsh starter whilst Swansea City had Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor in their starting XI. Neither subs bench included a player from Wales. 3 – José Mourinho finished outside the top 2 for the first time in his 10 full seasons as a manager. His finishing position as Chelsea manager is now 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. 3 – Vincent Kompany has now been sent off three times in his Premier League career – all of them with a straight red card. 3 – This season Steven Gerrard became only the third player in Premier League history to take three penalties in a single game. Like Craig Burley (Derby County) and Darren Bent (Sunderland) before him, the England captain failed to score all three. 3 – Ole Gunnar Solskjær won just 3 of his 18 Premier League games in charge of Cardiff City, losing 12. 3 – All three of the teams in the Premier League relegation zone on New Year’s Day have avoided the drop. Sunderland, West Ham and Fulham were in the drop zone heading into the fixtures on 1 January. 4 – Manchester United received the most yellow cards for simulation this season (4). 4 – Nemanja Vidić has now been sent off 4 times against Liverpool. The Serbian defender was only sent off 6 times in his Premier League career, with the other 2 coming against Chelsea. 4 – Luis Suárez became only the fourth player to score at least 3 hat-tricks in a single Premier League season. The Uruguayan collected the match ball in games versus West Brom, Norwich City and Cardiff this season. Alan Shearer (twice), Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dimitar Berbatov have all scored at least three hat-tricks in a single season previously. 4 – Mark Hughes became the first manager to beat Arsenal in charge of four different Premier League clubs: Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City. 5 – Scott Parker became the first player to play in the Premier League for five different London-based clubs. The England international started his career with Charlton Athletic and went on to play for Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham in London before joining Fulham at the start of the season. 5 – José Mourinho has failed to win in all 5 of his visits to Villa Park. The Chelsea manager has drawn 3 and suffered his second defeat at Aston Villa when his side went down 1-0 this season. The Blues have scored just once in those five trips with Mourinho in charge. 5 – Liverpool lost all five matches in which Luis Suárez failed to score. 5 – Steven Gerrard has scored more goals at Old Trafford than any other visiting player in the Premier League. The Liverpool captain scored twice from the penalty spot in a 3-0 win during the 2013-14 campaign. 6 – David de Gea has failed to keep a clean sheet in all six Manchester derbies in the Premier League, conceding 18 goals and losing five of them. 6 – Sunderland scored 6 own goals in the Premier League this season. 6 – Nicolas Anelka because the ninth player in Premier League history to score for six different clubs when he netted a brace during West Brom’s 3-3 draw against West Ham. The French forward scored for Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. 6 – Newcastle United lost six consecutive games for the first time in their Premier League history. 7 – Everton won a club record 7 consecutive Premier League matches. 7 – West Brom avoided relegation despite winning the joint-fewest games in the Premier League this season. Despite only winning 7 of their 38 games, the Baggies finished above Norwich City, Cardiff City and Fulham. Only Coventry City (1995-96) and West Brom (2004-05) have achieved this previously. 7 – Liverpool’s Martin Škrtel scored 7 goals this season – only 29 players scored more goals than the centre-back this season. The Slovakian also scored 3 own goals. 7 – Jack Butland conceded 7 goals in 225 minutes of Premier League football this season and was then loaned out to Leeds United. 7 – Manchester United lost a record 7 home games in the Premier League. 7 – Lee Cattermole received the 7th red card of his Premier League career in Sunderland’s 1-0 defeat at Hull City early in the season. He is now one behind Richard Dunne, Duncan Ferguson and Patrick Vieira who share the Premier League record of 8 red cards in their career. 7 – Craig Bellamy became the first player to score for 7 different clubs in the Premier League. The former Wales international had previously scored in the Premier League for Coventry City, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool, West Ham United and Manchester City before scoring for Cardiff City this season. 7 – Liverpool’s combined 7 goals in the two Merseyside derby fixtures this season (3-3 and 4-0) is the most they have scored versus Everton in a single Premier League season. 7 – Steve Clarke won just 7 of his last 35 Premier League matches in charge of West Bromwich Albion before he was dismissed during the season. 8 – All 8 of Samuel Eto’o’s Premier League goals came at Stamford Bridge. 8 – José Mourinho extended his record to 8 Premier League matches unbeaten versus Arsène Wenger. The Chelsea manager has won 3 of the head-to-head meetings, drawing 5. 8 – Newcastle United have finished above their rivals Sunderland for the 8th time in the 12 seasons they have both been in the Premier League together. 8 – Daniel Sturridge became only the second player to score in 8 consecutive Premier League games. Only Ruud van Nistelrooy (10) has scored in more matches in a row. 9 – Norwich City record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel mustered just 9 shots on target in 25 Premier League appearances in his debut season. The Dutch striker played 1,394 minutes of football for the Canaries and did not score after the opening game of the season in a 2-2 draw with Everton. 10 – Manchester United’s 3-2 win at Hull City was the club’s 10th consecutive Boxing Day victory. 10 – Steven Gerrard converted 10 penalties this season – 1 below Andy Johnson’s record of 11 in a Premier League season (2004-05). 10 – For the first time in Premier League history, 10 managers left a club before the final day. 11 – Liverpool broke their own record for most consecutive wins in a Premier League season not to win the league. Their previous record was set at 10 back in 2005-06. 11 – Liverpool set a club record 11 consecutive Premier League wins. 11 – Manchester City’s aggregate score versus Tottenham Hotspur this season is 11-1. 13 – 13 of Steve Sidwell’s 14 Premier League goals for Fulham have been scored in London. The Cottagers central midfielder scored 7 goals this season including his first outside of London, coming at Old Trafford, Manchester. 13 – Leighton Baines has scored all 13 penalties he has taken in the Premier League and is the only player in the history of the competition to have a 100% success rate having taken at least 10. 13 – Fulham ended a run of 13 successive seasons in the Premier League following their relegation this season. 13 – Thomas Sørensen extended his run as the most substituted goalkeeper in Premier League history when he was taken off at half-time during Stoke City’s 1-1 draw with Everton. The Danish international has now been replaced in 13 matches in the English top flight. 13 – Asmir Begović’s goal after 13 seconds for Stoke City in their 1-1 draw with Southampton was the joint-fourth fastest goal in Premier League history. Only Ledley King (10), Alan Shearer (10) and Mark Viduka (11) have scored in quicker time. The Bosnia and Herzegovina number 1 is on par with Chris Sutton and Dwight Yorke who have scored goals recorded on 13 seconds. 15 – Eventual champions Manchester City were top of the table for only 15 days throughout the 2013-14 season. Most importantly they were on top after the final game of the season. 16 – José Mourinho suffered his 16th Premier League defeat in his 159 matches in charge. 75% of these defeats have been against British managers. 16 – Chelsea claimed 16 points from their six games versus the other sides in the top four. Manchester City had the next best record amongst those sides, picking up only 7 points in comparison . 18 – Fulham conceded the most goals from shots outside the penalty area this season. 18 – Tottenham had more different goalscorers than any other team in the Premier League this season. 19 – Arsenal finished above Tottenham for a 19th consecutive season and 20 out of 22 in the Premier League era. 20 – Everton ended their 20-match run without a Premier League win at Old Trafford with a 1-0 victory over David Moyes’ Manchester United this season. The only previous occasion the Toffees had won at Old Trafford in the Premier League era was the very first game at Old Trafford following the league’s rebranding in 1992. 20 – Arsenal conceded 20 goals in their away matches vs the other top 5 this season. The Gunners went down 3-0 at Everton on Sunday having previously lost 6-3 at Manchester City, 5-1 at Liverpool and 6-0 at Chelsea. 20 – Yaya Touré became only the second central midfielder to score 20+ goals in a single PL season (after Frank Lampard in 2009-10). 21 – Ryan Giggs’ run of scoring in 21 consecutive Premier League seasons came to an end in 2013-14 when the Manchester United failed to find the net. 21 – Everton set a club record 21 wins in a single Premier League season. 22 – José Mourinho has now picked up 22 points from a possible 27 in his 9 Premier League matches versus Liverpool. 25 – There were 25 changed at the top of the Premier League this season. 25 – Liverpool scored in a Premier League record 25 consecutive first halves. This run came to an end when they lost 2-0 at home to Chelsea in April which took the title out of their hands in the process. 27 – Tottenham Hotspur conceded 27 goals in their 8 matches versus the top 4 teams this season, scoring just twice and picking up just 1 point. 27 – Chelsea conceded 27 this season. This is more than the Blues conceded in any of the three previous seasons under José Mourinho. 27 – Marouane Fellaini did not win a game as a Manchester United starter until the Red Devils’ 27th game of the season. The £27.5 million summer signing from Everton had failed to win 4 starts for United prior to their 2-0 win at Crystal Palace in February. He also drew all 3 games as an Everton player in August before transferring to Old Trafford. 28 – Cardiff’s 3-0 loss at Newcastle in their penultimate game of the season saw the Welsh capital side become the 28th team relegated from the Premier League in their first season following promotion. 29% – Hull City avoiding relegation means that only 6 of the 21 teams (29%) promoted to the Premier League in second place have been relegated. 31 – Luis Suárez set a Premier League record for scoring 31 goals in a single 38-game Premier League season without scoring a single penalty. His goals tally also matches Alan Shearer and Cristiano Ronaldo for the most in a 38-game season. 31 – Luis Suárez is the first player to score 30+ goals in Premier League season and not score against any of the top four. Dwight Yorke & Dimitar Berbatov are the only other players to win the Golden Boot without scoring against the top four. 31 – Manchester United recorded their 31st Premier League victory over Aston Villa in the 22 seasons since the league rebranded in 1992. The Red Devils have taken 103 points off the Villans, beating them more times and taking more points from them than they have against any other side in the Premier League. 34 – Luis Suárez scored the 34th hat-trick by a Liverpool player in Premier League history. Only Arsenal can match the Reds for the number of times one of their players has scored at least 3 goals in a single game. 39 – Fulham are the first team in Premier League history to use as many as 39 different players in a single Premier League campaign. 40 – Ryan Giggs became the second 40-year old outfield player to appear in the Premier League. Teddy Sheringham was the first when he turned out for West Ham in 2005-06 and the following season. 42 – Brad Friedel became the fourth player in Premier League history to play at the age of 42. The Spurs goalkeeper is the youngest of these 42-year olds, after John Burridge, Alec Chamberlain and Steve Orgrizovic. 45 – Ryan Giggs faced his 45th different team in the Premier League. Cardiff City became the last. The Red Devils are the only side to have played Premier League football that Giggs has never faced. 46 – Juan Cala’s sending off for Cardiff City means that all 46 teams to have played in the Premier League have been shown at least one red card. 48 – Liverpool’s total of 48 away goals set a record for the most in a single Premier League campaign. 49 – David Moyes has now failed to win any of his 49 Premier League away games at the traditional ‘Big Four’ (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United), drawing 19 and losing 30. 52 – Nemanja Vidić’s dismissal in their 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool was the 52nd red card for a Manchester United player in Premier League history. This ranks fifth out of the seven ever-present clubs (Everton 76, Arsenal 75, Chelsea 64, Tottenham Hotspur 55, Liverpool 48, Aston Villa 45). 52 – Ryan Giggs has now made at least one Premier League appearance at 52 of the 53 stadiums to host a top flight game since the rebranding in 1992. Roker Park is the only stadium to have host a Premier League game that Giggs has not participated in. 61 – Manchester City’s streak of 61 Premier League matches with a goal at the Etihad Stadium came to an end when Chelsea turned up and produced a 1-0 victory. Prior to the Blues win, it was Alex McLeish’s Birmingham City on 13 November 2010 with Ben Foster in goal that shut out the Citizens on their own patch. 64 – Manchester United ended the 2013-14 season with their lowest-ever points tally in the 22 seasons of the Premier League. 67% – Fraizer Campbell scored 4 of his 6 Premier League goals this season against the two Manchester clubs. 68 – Manchester City had scored more goals through 23 games in 2013-14 than they did through their entire 2012-13 campaign (66) when they finished runners-up under Roberto Mancini. 71% – 22 of Luis Suárez’s 31 goals came against sides in the bottom half. 72 – Everton set a club record for most Premier League points in a single season. The Toffees ended the season on 72 points with a 2-0 win at Hull City. The ever-present Premier League failed to match this tally during the 42-game seasons or the 11 seasons under David Moyes. 77% – 10 of Steven Gerrard’s 13 Premier League goals this season came from the penalty spot. 77 – José Mourinho’s Premier League unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge ended at 77 games when Chelsea suffered a shock 2-1 loss at home to Sunderland. 79 – Arsenal finished with their highest points tally since the 2007-08 season. 81 – Manchester United attempted a Premier League high 81 crosses in their 2-2 home draw with Fulham. 82 – Arsenal collected the most points in the Premier League during the 2013 calendar year. The Gunners end the first half of the season at the top of the table but fell to fourth at the end of the season. 82 – Chelsea finished with their lowest points tally under José Mourinho 86 – The Premier League winners Manchester City picked up 86 points from 38 games – less than La Liga leaders Atlético Madrid (88 points from 36 games), Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich (90 points from 34 games), Serie A champions Juventus (96 points from 36 games) and the same as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain with 1 game to play (86 points from 37 games) –the Premier League the toughest league in Europe? 90 – Fernando Amorebieta’s because the first Venezuelan to score in the Premier League on Saturday during Fulham’s 2-2 draw at home to Hull City. 90 different nationalities have now scored since the re-branding of the league in 1992. 90 – Lukas Podolski has completed 90 minutes in only six of his 52 Premier League appearances for the Gunners since joining in the summer of 2012. 86% – 37 of Newcastle’s 43 Premier League goals were scored by French players. 100 – Steven Gerrard became the 24th player in Premier League history to score 100 goals during the season. As of the end of 2013-14 season the England captain has 105 goals. 101 – Liverpool became both the first team to score 90+ and 100+ goals in a single Premier League season and not win the league. 128 – Arsenal were top of the Premier League for 128 days – longer than any other side. 138 – Shola Ameobi has now made 138 Premier League appearances as a substitute – more than any other player. 157 – Petr Čech has moved up to 157 Premier League clean sheets. Only David James (169) has kept more clean sheets than the Czech Republic number one. 186 – Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel finally scored his first Premier League goal in his 186th league appearance for the Blues. 300 – Rio Ferdinand became the fifth player to make 300 Premier League appearances for Manchester United during the season. Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Roy Keane have all made 300 appearances for the Red Devils. 360 – Arsenal have picked up more points in Premier League London derbies than any other side. The Gunners recorded their 102nd London derby victory since the start of the 1992-93 season with a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace. At the other end of the table, the Eagles are propping up the table with 30 points. 493 – Steven Taylor ended a 493-day wait for an Englishman to score for Newcastle in the Premier League. The last time it happened was Boxing Day 2012 when James Perch scored the opening goal against Manchester United. (56 games) 983 – Tom Huddlestone went 983 days without scoring a Premier League goal before netting the fourth during Hull City’s 6-0 thrashing of Fulham on Boxing Day. The England midfielder celebrated with a haircut after making a charity bet with Jake Livermore more than 2 years ago that he would not get his haircut until his next goal.
