STECKLY BATTLES TO AN EIGHTH PLACE FINISH AT TROIS RIVIERES Sunday August 11, 2013, Trois Rivieres, QC: Sunday’s running of the JuliaWine 100 at Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres saw Scott Steckly battle to an eighth place finish from his 14th place starting position. This was event number eight in the 2013 twelve race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Saturdays practice session for the thirty one cars entered, had Scott Steckly register the 11th quickest time. A team debriefing would have the crew making some significant changes to the car before pre qualifying technical inspection. Stecklys time would still be good enough for him to be in the “quickest” qualifying group later in the afternoon. “We were just a little off on the set up of the Canadian Tire/Sylvania Dodge,” said Steckly after practice. “The field is so close on times that just a minor change can make all the difference in the world. Hopefully we have made the right changes for qualifying.” Steckly’s 22 Racing/Canadian Tire/Sylvania Dodge took to the track in the eleventh position based on his practice effort. A timed lap of 108.590 was good enough for only 14th quickest. A disappointed but optimistic Steckly said,”We are just off a little with the set up today. We usually run not to bad here so 14th is a little disappointing but the JuliaWine 100 is a tough race on equipment so we’ll see what happens tomorrow.” After two years of rain for this historic event, the sun was out in full for the 42 lap, 100 km race. Steckly’s strategy for the race was to be smooth, maintain position but save the car until later in the race. The strategy paid off as he was able to move up to finish in the top ten in eighth. “There was a lot of attrition out there today,” said Steckly after the race. “We knew we just had to stay out of trouble and save the car which we did. There were a lot of caution periods which closed up the field and made for close racing. Hopefully the fans enjoyed the race as there was lots of action.” Steckly maintains the points lead with a four point margin in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Championship standings. The Julia Wine 100 will air on TSN/TSN2 on Sunday Aug. 18 at 11:00 a.m and on RDS/RDS2 on Fri. Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. and Sun. Sept 8. at 10 a.m. The 22 Racing Team head back to Ontario to get the oval cars ready for one of the favourite stops on the schedule, Riveside Speedway in Antigonish, NS on Saturday August 17th.
