SUGGESTION AND OBSERVATION!!! There are clearly two issues involved in this contest of power. One is the clear desire by Mr President to stem the tides of insecurity over the nations landscape which is really becoming a source of serious embracement not only at home but causing the nation and govt loss of esteem in the eyes of the international commity of nations. The BH insurgency and loss of lives,the militancy in the niger delta which results in the loss of about 50% of crude oil produced through theft is causing great concerns for international oil price stability. For these,president Jonathan shoped for Gusau and conferred him with the role of coordinating minister of defence and security. It was a relief for those who know Gusau have no doubt that his acceptance to serve are purely on nationalistic grounds. The source/ s of friction between Gusau and the service chiefs is largely on matters of the ministrys budgetary control and principally the procurement processes of the ministry of defence. The roles of a minister of defence are quite clear even without the additional unnecessary nomenclature of coordinating roles. He supervises the security arms and ensures they are well supplied,trained,equipe d to carry out their roles of internal and external security duties. He on behalf of the president overseas the defence policies of the nation in regards to regional,Africa and international obligation on defence packs,peace keeping under international treaties and obligations like UN,AU,ECOWAS etc. Gusau is quite capable of steering this nation out of her insecurity woods. He has lots of goodwill internationally and there is no doubt he can deliver internal security of lives and property everywhere. The issue is wether vested interests will allow him deliver this to Jonathan government.
