SUNDAY RETRO on DD NATIONAL _____________ Kaagaz Ke Phool is a 1959 film produced and directed by immensely talented and charismatic Guru Dutt, who also played the lead role in the film with the exquisite Waheeda Rahman as his leading lady, It fetched the coveted Filmfare Best Cinematographer Award - for Guru Dutts long term friend and favourite cinematographer - V.K. Murthy Also, the Filmfare Best Art Direction Award - M.R. Acharekar Interestingly, the film was a box office disaster in its time but was later resurrected as a world cinema CULT CLASSIC in the 1980s. The films music was composed by S. D. Burman and the lyrics were written by Kaifi Azmi, giving hits like Waqt ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm, sung by Geeta Dutt. In the 2002 Sight & Sound critics and directors poll, Kaagaz Ke Phool was included in the list of the greatest films of all time.
