Sabbath afternoon hike, and an answered prayer! A month ago, The Brother & I hiked down Ha Meddle Ridge overlooking Frankie and Watervalley, site of the alternative landing place. It was an arduous trek down a steep incline with the ground thickly carpeted by many years of pandanus thatch droppings, which are thorny and could be painful. It wasnt until we were at the bottom, and walking on the rocks towards Frankie that I realized that my sunglasses were no longer hanging in the front of my t-shirt. Not about to backtrack up that miserable hike, we decided to go back down the following Sabbath to see if we could find my sunglasses. We went; we didnt find; and, so, I sent a message to Kari in Tahiti and asked her to bring back another pair, which she did. With a stuffed up ankle, I couldnt go back to make another search…until today. Got some tape from the doc, strapped my ankle, found a long walking stick and set off. The last time we went down to look for the glasses I prayed that we would find it; but, we were more than half-way down the ridge before I prayed - and, of course, we hadnt found it, which - I must confess - created the smallest doubt. Shame on me! This time, I prayed before I started down the ridge. There, at the very beginning of the second patch of pandanus thatch we had to wade through, were my sunglasses, sitting right on top of the thatch, as if no leaves had fallen in a month. We had to have walked on that thing when we went down the first time to look for it. Oh yes, I believe in prayer! So, I left Tedside, came back up the western slope and headed for St. Pauls. Our world famous Galapagos tortoise, Ms. T., who normally lives in the Tedside area, has been temporarily relocated to the St. Pauls area while the alternate landing place project is going on. She seems to be okay with the move - not sure how one tells things such as that. I came upon her on my way down St. Pauls. She was headed in that direction, too. At St. Pauls the surf was still raging. Its been doing this for several days - weeks? - now. After about an hour at St. Pauls, I made my way back up the track and met Ms. T. still coming down. She had traveled almost 200 meters in that hour =)
