Sacred Thread and Raksha bandhan Sacred thread Reviewing our responsibility for the previous generation, present generation and coming generation……that is why three layers of thread we put on our shoulder….Also indicating the presence of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar…..their sacredness in the thread….It indicates us to keep our body, mind and speech pure….and this thread always reminds us about our responsibility towards our society…..Responsibility towards past, present and future generations….. In ancient days women also had this Sacred thread….It was not limited to one caste or the other…all the people in the society had this…..Responsibilities for everybody…….but later on it got confined to a particular community…..Trouble makers are everywhere and this division is because of their misdeeds….. When one gets married they get six….three of theirs and three of their wives…..Actually wife should also have it….but the man takes it on himself, allowing the wife to take care of her other responsibilities….As this is male dominated society, men took over the responsibility of their wives…..There was equality in vedic times…but as time progressed, mischief makers did mischiefs and dominated the society…. Raksha bandhan Raksha bandhan was a means of expressing love by their sisters to their brothers and praying the divine to protect their brothers from bad and negative influences….It is the protection for their brothers….sisters protecting their brothers through the means of divinity……they used to take a small piece of white cloth and put some grains of rice…we call it as akshath…Prasad of the offerings done to god…..so tying it in a small piece of white cloth with silk thread and tying it on the right hand arm of their brother……this will protect the brother from any negative influences…..and then, with the help of lighted lamp using ghee as the oil, doing aarathi around the face of the brother…..ghee is used as it gives a stable flame and its fumes are good for health in many ways…..when the brother sees this stable flame, his mind and intellect gets influenced and gets in to a satvik mode…..and then blessing the brother with putting akshath over his head so that the positive energy of the akshath blesses him and protects him from all negative energies and influences….also, this helps in better bonding of the sister and brother….brother then gives a gift to his sister…not money or material…but any thing like books on spirituality, which helps his sister to progress in the spiritual path….. This is tied not only to biological brothers but also to other people whom they consider them as brothers…this promotes brotherhood in the society…..people wil see girls and women with more respect…..so it is celebrated as a big festival in this country……during Shravan Pournima…..
