Sadly Denzils blood test came back today showing signs of kidney - TopicsExpress

Sadly Denzils blood test came back today showing signs of kidney failure so we decided to go and see him at the vets. We had been told he could have more tests but dont want to put him through that, our thoughts on the way were that the kindest thing would be to have him euthanised as his frail little body will not cope with this as well as his heart murmur, epilepsy and the fact he is nearly 16. At the vets we asked for his drip to be removed so we could take him out with us for a while to say our last goodbyes. I carried him around the park wrapped in his blanket and he sniffed the fresh air, then we sat in the van, had big cuddles and said our goodbyes. He had a big drink of water and ate a little bit of sausage roll then it was time to take him back in. As we sat in reception waiting to see the vet with Denzil on my lap, he began to get restless and even tried to bark, so we went outside and put him on the ground thinking we would have to hold him upright but to our surprise he strolled off, squatted for a wee, sniffed around a bit and then did a poo right in the middle of the car park before heading back away from the vets surgery to the van as if to say you can take me home now! This threw us in to slight turmoil as to know what to do for the best, after discussing it with the vet, and as he is in no pain, just weak and sleepy, we decided to bring him home with us where the vet agreed him being in familiar surroundings with those who love him is the best place for him. We have made the decision that we will not put him through any more painful procedures, one of us will be with him at all times in case he starts to deteriorate.
