Saint Lazarus of Bethany is the Lazarus Jesus revives after four days in the Gospel of John (John 11 and John 12), and is said to be the miracle which exemplifies Jesus has even over death. There is also a different Lazarus in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 16:19-31) who is a poor beggar ignored by rich man -- after the two of them pass away, the rich mans prayers cannot be answered when he descends to Hades and even though the beggar Lazarus ascends to heaven due to the chasm between the two, the moral emphasized to the rich man that his family has to listen to the words of Moses and the Prophets which are available in life in order to avoid the same fate. Appropriately enough, dogs come and lick the sores of the Lazarus in the Gospel of Luke.
