Saints duo arrive at Elgin on loan... TWO St Johnstone teenagers could be handed their Elgin City loan debuts this weekend. Boss Jim Weir drafted in 19-year-old pair Ally Gilchrist and Craig Thomson from Saints’ under-20s on an emergency loan for the remainder of the year. Gilchrist, a left-sided or central defender, and Thomson, who can play wide midfield or up front, could both come into Weir’s starting line-up for the home game against East Stirling on Saturday. On Gilchrist he said: I just feel it’s an area round the back four that we need to strengthen and we need some competition for places in that position. And Weir said Thomson – who has made one brief St Johnstone first team appearance as a substitute earlier this year – is a pacy player with an eye for goal. Both could have featured last weekend when Elgin were due to host Berwick Rangers, but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged Borough Briggs pitch. Weir said the emergency loan means both youngsters will come to City until January, when he hopes to extend their loan when the transfer window opens. (The Northern Scot)
