Salam lovely ladies! Im sending a note today because I knew I could rely on you all for an amazing ajr gaining opportunity! There is a beautiful beautiful sister named Shafaq Syed who is 20 years old and has lived in the hospital for the last 6 years. When she was 6 she started falling down a lot and ended up being diagnosed with a disease that eventually has left her paralyzed from the waist down. She has some use of her hands but it is limited. I had the pleasure of visiting her yesterday and wallahi the noor on her face is mesmerizing mashaAllah tabarakallah. Eventhough her situation is not ideal she is full of happiness and hope and love mashaAllah. She kept smiling the entire visit and was telling me how she is working on her GED and wants to go to college mashaAllah. When I asked her what she wants she said I wish I could be in a muslim community and I wish there was a muslim hospital for me to be in. She also wishes she could visit a masjid :(. SubhanaAllah her family is burdened beyond belief. They have 5 kids and only one is normal. She has a brother that has the same disease she does and is paralyzed. Another brother with severe autism and is a handful and the other two also have health issues. Even the mother has health issues and Shafaq said she doesnt know how she does it :(. Shafaq said she hates being in the hospital and I cant blame her and she keeps busy by listening to lectures on islam online and she likes to bead and knit and crochet. She LOVES getting visitors. Her family is not able to visit her often because of their situation and she has no one else. I was thinking that we can create a schedule to go visit her and between all of us inshaAllah she can have a visitor every day. I have included a google doc for this purpose. Please note the following - * She is in Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center at 585 Schenectady Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11203 specifically the Rehabilitation Institute in room 1300C which is on the 3rd floor (pediatric floor) * Street parking is hard until 6pm on weekdays but there is a parking garage for $10 flat fee. * She will be starting school next week so during weekdays visitors should come at 4pm or later. Weekends are open. Her phone number is 347-828-2987 so please call her and let her know what time you are visiting to make sure nothing has come up. * Children are allowed as long as dont run around. She was excited for me to bring the kids so she can meet them. * I was told that visitors should not come in large groups and children are allowed to come on the floor. It makes sense for us to come individually that way our time can be spread out and she can have visitors daily. * She loves home cooked food and fruits so would be great if you can bring her a little something with you. Literally just one portion and FYI she is diabetic but has no allergies. She said she loves fresh pomegranate .. if u could take it out of the shell would be best. * If you want to bring something with you and I asked what she would like - she said yarn in any color, two thick knitting needles (she said thick and long not regular), a crochet needle with a long bottom (she said its a special one with a long bottom probably because her hand coordination is limited). Also any good islamic books. Please please please lets try to work together to fill up this schedule and have a visitor a day. I literally went for one hour and wallahi it was probably more of a benefit for me than it was for her! Aside from the ajr it is our duty to take care of our brothers and sisters that are in need. Allah gave her this condition and it is our collective responsibility to support her in getting through it and subhanaAllah all she wants is some good Muslim company. BTW I know it might be a trek for some of you but if you go between fajr and maghrib angels will be making dua for you that entire time period and if you go from maghrib to fajr the same. And if you are hesitant and anxious to visit a stranger .. wallahi I was a bit anxious but the conversation just flowed and she was so personable mashaAllah. May Allah always keep her righteous and happy and give her a complete shifaa. Inshaallah I know we can fill up the spreadsheet and fill her hospital room with visitors and love! May Allah grant all those that visit her good health and happiness in this dunya and Firdous al a3laa. Also if you have child care constraints please PLEASE do not hesitate to let me know. I am en route to Brooklyn and have no issue watching your kids afterschool and even doing HW with them while you go visit and come back. And btw while I was there she showed me her video. Turned out MGB made a video for her :) youtube/watch?v=fUetsF5Tmq4
