Sam was born on Oct. 3, 1967, in Midland. He graduated from Snyder High School and attended Texas Tech University. Sam worked many years for AT&T and was currently working in Odessa in the oil and gas industry. Sam was an avid outdoorsman. He was Livin the Dream when outside, whether he was watching the Lights over Lubbock with his telescope, cruising country roads, or playing with his dogs. He loved it all. Sam loved animals of all kinds - some he preferred to eat, some he preferred to stuff, but none did he love more than his dogs. Every dog he ever had was a family member to him, and he would have sacrificed life or limb for them - and even came close a few times. But, anyone who knew Sam even a little bit knew that his true passion was anywhere with a rod and reel in his hand. It didnt matter if it was the largest body of water on the planet or a puddle, Sam would fish it. If there was anything to be caught, hed catch it! He was equally as compassionate about people. He had a heart of gold as big as Texas and was generous beyond belief. People gravitated toward Sam. He would do dances, tell jokes, and even give the shirt off his back if it would put a smile on their face. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sybil Ann Reynolds. Survivors include his father, John Dean Cruse and wife, Marcie of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Cynthia Crow and husband, Travis of Wolfforth, and Dorothy Keefer of Abilene; a brother, Dean Cruse and wife, Kellie of Carlsbad, NM; his friend and soul mate, Renea Roberts; stepson, Brandon Kellum and wife, Crista all of Lubbock; four nieces, LynnAnn Duniven and husband, Will, Alyssa Crow, Tasha Teel and husband, Benjamin, and KaLea Keefer; two nephews, Kenneth Crow and Justin Cruse; stepfather, Paul Ray Reynolds; and his four beloved dogs, Hannibal, Roscoe, Thor and Zodicus. Sam was infectious. His smile, his attitude, his spirit, and that big boisterous laugh were all contagious. Everyone loved him and wanted him around. Lubbock Town of the USA will never be the same, nor will Heaven. Memorials are suggested to The Haven Animal Care Shelter, 4501 N. FM 1729-NCR 3000, Lubbock, TX 79403. As Sam BoBo Cruse would say, Rock Steady Ride Free.
