San Mig Coffee, Meralco dispute second seed The Meralco Bolts and the San Mig Coffee Mixers battle for the second seed in the Governors’ Cup playoffs when they meet on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum. The Mixers are heading into their 5:15 p.m. with the Bolts encounter on a hot streak, having won their last four matches. The match opens the night’s twinbill that also features a crucial match against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and GlobalPort at 7:30 p.m. Meralco and San Mig Coffee tote identical 5-3 win-loss records, and the victory will take the No. 2 spot in the standings behind league-leading Petron Blaze. That means avoiding complications, as the loser can still fall out of the upper bracket of the playoffs. The top four teams at the end of the elimination round will enjoy twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals. San Mig Coffee will be bannered anew by import Marquis Blakely and stars James Yap and Marc Pingris. But the Mixers have drawn productive games from youngsters Allein Maliksi and Mark Barroca over their last few outings, making them a more lethal unit. Meralco is hoping to get a bigger boost from import Mario West, who has been a force on both ends of the floor for the Bolts. #LabanSanMig -admin vhere
