Sandakan travelogue - Day 1 : Kuala Lumpur – Kota Kinabalu – Sandakan The day started early…REALLY EARLY.!!!! By 4.45 am, I was already at KL Sentral. Took the 5 am ERL to KLIA. And by 7.30 the flight took off and KK here I come. The flight was uneventful, EXCEPT for the pakcik sitting next to me!!! Annoying.. but let’s not dwell into it. The next flight from KK to Sandakan was even more uneventful.. I slept all the way and woke up just before the plane landed in Sandakan. Boy!!!! Sandakan was HOTTTTT!!!!!! As soon as I get out of the airport, there was this gush of hot air on my face. I was relieved because taxi was easy to get… cool relief. The journey from the airport to the city center wasn’t too long.. but the journey was really nice because Sandakan had the same feel like Miri..so it brought lots of nice memories. My hotel room in Seafront Hotel (it’s ironic because it’s not even near the sea..hehehehe) is ok, considering the fact that the rate was only RM51.00 per night. After checking in, I took a short rest to pray and then was ready to explore the city. My first place was Tangga Seribu (A thousand stair)… again another irony coz it’s actually one hundred stairs… but it’s still enough to make me pant and sweat, especially in the sweltering heat of Sandakan. The stairs led me to Residensi and then Agnes Keith’s House. Sandakan was full of colonial building, therefore has the old rustic charm to it. I passed more old buildings before going to the commercial centre. Went to a new shopping mall and the anchor department store was Parkwell.. (hahahaha more Miri memories were evoked) The day ended with a massage..well two actually!!! It started with a foot reflexology with hot stone treatment. But since the masseur was soo good, I decided to get a full body massage. He did a really good job and it was one of the best oil massage I have ever had. I went back to the hotel refreshed and rejuvenated.
