Saturday. Another beauty. Nice breeze. Still havent met Stephen King. Thats okay. Impossible to have everything. Im fine with it. Daughter, Cathy, still here from Austria. Time going fast. Cramming everything possible. Sat on Portlands Eastern Promenade this afternoon. Casco Bay was beautiful. Many sail boats and folks sitting on the Prom taking the view in. Loose puppy. So naughty. Playing the game of every time his mistress came close-hed run. As a former dog trainer-this makes me crazy. Repeated her commands to her pet. Lots of cars and he crossed the road. He finally sat on command and stayed. Thats because I told her to say it like she meant it. I told her that her puppy needs to recall. Pup was enticed with Urban Sugar Donuts. Makes me crazy, too. Our dogs were taught to recall on one call when they were real young. Reward-lots of love, hugs, praise. No treats. Love is what ours enjoyed. Recall saves dogs lives. To me-treats are a terrible way to reward a dog. Love is all they need. Several people were almost bitten today and one was. Donuts be damned. Even Guide Dog pups are rewarded with treats nowadays. I feel sorry for the blind person whose dog tires of their kind of treats. We reared puppies for Guiding Eyes. Wrote a puppy training book before that because humans screw up their dogs. Literally kill their dogs with kindness.
