Saturday, July 20: The Lint Trap Bonnie and I see one another as equals. We both wash dishes, but she prepares meals much more than I do. She does yard work, but I mow 100% of the time. Bonnie and I shop for groceries somewhat equally, as I can read a list fairly well (most of the time). She writes checks and pays most of the bills; I balance the checkbook. We have a great support system in place. This morning, Bonnie started a load of wash. She went to the store, and I later placed the wet clothes into the dryer. I even remembered to take out her cotton shirt after five minutes. I always check the lint filter prior to starting the dryer. If left to build up, lint can restrict air flow. This causes the dryer to work harder; in addition, it will require more time for the clothes to dry. Of greatest importance, though, lint buildup can start a fire. If not addressed, our spiritual channels can become clogged with the lint of anger, frustration, jealousy, grudges, resentment, and a multitude of other negative and destructive thoughts and actions. Regular, intentional removal is necessary if we desire inner peace and joy, as well a right relationship with our God. Taking time each day to reflect and be in touch with God enables me to address the problem of the lint that restricts my connection with God. Through regular Bible study and prayer, I am able to remove that which prevents me from being who I want to be, and who I understand God wants and needs me to be. I only wish that this process could be as simple as cleaning the dryer filter regularly. Knowing how to live is never the same as doing it. Blessings and peace, De
