Saudi Arabia If they don’t already own any, the first thing - TopicsExpress

Saudi Arabia If they don’t already own any, the first thing that women coming to Saudi Arabia have to do is go abaya shopping. Abaya is a black, long overcoat that all women must to wear by law when are seen out in public in KSA. In some strict places in KSA, the abaya must be plain black with no color at all, and women should cover their faces. Other cities in KSA, women can wear black Abaya mottled with other colors as you see in the pictures. Many people think that this law is applied in all Middle East countries, they keep asking me about my feelings toward having to wear black every day. This is something I have never experienced in my life. In fact, Saudi Arabia is the only country in Middle East in which wearing abaya is required by law. In other countries, including all the Gulf countries, women wear Abaya as a personal preference or out of tradition. Well, the thing is Islam does not mention anywhere that women should wear abaya or black color. Women in Islam can cover her body modestly in the way she would like. My personal preference is that I like how abayas look, but I am totally against forcing women to wear abaya by law. That is why when I visited KSA for 4 days with my parents and sisters, I rejected to wear Abaya since I am against forcing women to wear something they do not want. However, my life was in danger since I was the victim of an attempted rape. Thankfully my attackers were not successful.
