Scathing mad doesnt even begin to describe how I am feeling after my first run in with Dr. Richard Perez on 5664 Bee Ridge Road. After waiting over an hour in an empty office I was greeted by insults. New to the office, I was unaware of their no food policy. In order to keep my 2 and 3 year olds entertained I had given them snacks at the 45 minute mark. The first thing he did was walk in and yell at my 2 yo for being messy. She started sobbing because no body in her entire life has been as abusive as he was to her. He then instructed for me to pick up their mess off his floor as he lectured me for letting her pick a piece up off the floor and eat it. Shes 2 people! Thats what they do!!!! I was holding a newborn, I cant be everywhere. I mentioned I had given them food to help with the wait time and he went BALLISTIC about how hard he works. 3 different times he old me I am the best dr in town!!!! Which I found rather strange. I asked him to stop being hostile (Evelyn is petrified out of her mind at this point begging for me to help her) and it went spiraling out if control from there. He then began interrogating me about my children and where they go for care. I assume you use the health department? He smugly threw at me. No actually I have a private provider thank you. Annabelle asks me mommy is the dr being mean? I didnt respond and be snapped that hes always nice. He asked if I vaccinate my children (remember this is an app for our foster baby) and I said Im not here to discuss my children, this visit is about Baby E. He then told me he was going I have her taken away from my if I dont because they are a danger to the baby. Ok well thats between you and DCF I said. He then does the exam and tells me he has been helping out the foster care system much longer than I have been alive and he will call DCF about me. Im shaking from the verbal assault and am astonished at his professionalism. How can he work with mothers and children on a daily basis??? I cant tell you if it was us breaking the food rule or he just has a chip about foster parents, but he was furious from the moment he walked in the door and let us all have it. He asked for my ID and low and behold I dont have it in the foster babies bag. I was so disheveled getting 3 kids to an appointment on time that my purse was unfortunately the least of my worries. Ohhhhhh I wish you could have witnesses part two of the Dr. Perez outrage: you are illegally driving and I will not release this child to you. Can the foster coalition fax you my copy? No and if I tried to leave with her he would call the police. So I sat hostage in his office for ANOTHER hour until someone talked some sense into him and allowed a faxed copy to be good enough. I could elaborate on my thought but I will stick to what happened.
