Science, anyone? What do you you think - or have been told - is the arm providing the major force in thrusting the Bo: front or back arm. In an experiment devised by Colin Shaw along with researchers from Cambridge, Pennsylvania State University and the University of Oxford, the experts had suggested that the dominant arm—positioned at the back of the spear—would expend most of the energy when the thrusting an attack. In the experiment a group of athletes were instructed to thrust a wooden dowel as electrodes measured their muscle activity. Result: contrary to their expectations, the muscles in the front arm were more active than in the rear arm. It was set up to find out why the Neanderthal man (~ 300,000 - 40000 years ago) had such strong arms. Coincidentally, the Neanderthal Museum near Düsseldorf (aaaah, oooh!) has some nice original cudgel and spear models. So, hows your Bojutsu?
