Seated Box Jumps w/ Ankle Weights. Another variation which allows you to load your jumps. Done for explosive strength development of the lower limbs. Remember, most people do not even to perform jump training: develop the structural resources that form the foundation and potential for strength and power development first. The criteria for jumping is that you must be able to land with lumbar spine integrity and make controlled contact/minimal noise. Maximal box jumping is a waste of time. The objective of vertical jump type movements is optimal vertical displacement of hip height regardless of how high they can bring their feet. The vast majority of people I see box jump do not vertically displace their hips any higher with their 100% box jump height versus their 95% effort box jump height. The difference is that they display more knee, ankle, hip flexibility with the 100% effort in order to get the feet high enough to land on the box; and often with too much lumbar spine flexion. For orthopedic as well as performance considerations there is no question that box jump heights should be restricted to a height where you land no less parallel of a squat. Its about vertical hip displacement, not goofy pelvic flexibility :) #getstrong #boxjump
