Secretary del Rosario to speak on the PHL perspective on The Post-2015 Development Agenda at UN General Assembly Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F. del Rosario left this morning for New York to attend the opening activities of the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The theme of this year’s session is “The Post-2015 Development Agenda: Setting the Stage.” The session aims to start the work on putting in place a global development framework upon the conclusion of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) time frame in 2015. Secretary del Rosario will be delivering the Philippine statement during the UNGA High Level General Debate on 30 September 2013. His statement will share the Philippine experience on lessons learned in achieving the eight MDGs, and the Philippines’ proposals on how the post-2015 development agenda should look. His statement will also highlight critical issues that are important to the Philippines, such as migration, peace and security, and disaster risk reduction. “The opening of the UNGA is an opportunity to highlight to a world audience the significant progress the country has made and share our experience in achieving goals shared by other countries,” Secretary del Rosario said. “It is also an opportunity to meet personally with our partners to strengthen linkages and build new ones, all in the spirit of recognizing the United Nations as an important platform for unity and cooperation.” Aside from participating in the General Debate, the Secretary will also meet with his counterpart Foreign Ministers of ASEAN, with UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon, with the 68th General Assembly President Mr. John William Ashe, with US Secretary of State John Kerry, and with a number of his counterparts to discuss issues of mutual concern. He will have an opportunity to address U.S. and Philippine businessmen in New York at the US-Philippine Society Gala dinner to be held at the New York Stock Exchange on 27 September 2013. Apart from the activities of the Secretary, members of the Philippine delegation will also participate in high-level activities that address Philippine priorities in disarmament, the MDGs, persons with disabilities, sustainable development, governance, human trafficking, migration, human rights, inter-faith and intercultural dialogue, and peaceful settlement of disputes.
