See this article for how soldiers integrate technology to help close the gaps between Soldiers and families - to reduce the number of one in a lifetime events that they miss. U.S. Army Chaplain Capt. Colt Randles, unit Chaplain at Fort Jackson Leader Fort Jackson has nearly perfected this technique, and his efforts have been highlighted by local and national news outlets, including CNN. Chaplain Randles arranged for PVT Zachary Rush of 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment to watch the birth of his son via cell phone. #ThankfulTuesday Rush took advantage of the invitation his battalion chaplain put out during his initial brief to the fresh recruits in BCT and will never forget what happened next. The invitation was to attempt to connect the Soldier and his family during the birth of his child. Babies do not take orders from the Army but this one, Colton Z. Rush, reported for duty at an opportune time after his father had finished shooting his weapon on Ft. Jackson’s range 2. With a supportive chain of command, PVT Rush was allowed to take the chaplain’s offer and view the live birth in AL. WIS TV of Columbia caught wind of the story and highlighted it in their “Good News” broadcast on 25 Nov 2014. A bit of creativity and a heart to serve are all that are required to leave a lasting impact.
