Seeing the video of the female cat blasting into and routing a dog - TopicsExpress

Seeing the video of the female cat blasting into and routing a dog who attacked her humans son (see earlier link, if you havent) suddenly kicked something into place for me. My splendid friends Sara M. Harvey and her husband Matthew Schwartz came to visit me, sadly the very day after the already-eventful Bubonicon 44. They brought with them their not-yet-year old daughter, Beatrice. Who is also quite splendid. They were eager to meet the famous Ms. Emma, whose exploit theyd been reading about online for years. But then Baby B came toddling toward Emma from her blindside (or crawling and reaching; cant quite remember), and Emma shocked and horrified me by whipping right around, making a growly sound, and darting her open jaws at her. It was especially surprising to me because Emma never shows aggression toward humans, even ones she thinks are sketchy - they just get the Hard Eye. And shes always acted gentle toward kids. To my enormous relief, Sara and Matt took it in stride. (Actually, B didnt seem particularly put out about it, either.) Seasoned Dog People themselves, they pointed out Emma had been confronted with an unruly human pup. And had done no harm nor made contact - meaning she never intended to. But what hit me today was: Emma started doing the same thing to Yoshi when he was half his current size. And shes adored him since the moment she laid eyes on him. I never realized, though, before a few minutes ago what Emma was really doing, probably because I never saw it before the Baby B incident. It was a Senior Canine putting a liked but rowdy junior pack member or ally in its place. Indeed, Ive written about her doing it to Yoshi here a few times. It was basically her saying, No! Bad puppy. Still glad they didnt sue, of course. Thanks for being understanding, kids!
