Senate to take over RSHA: Residents in Benin react The Resolution of the Senate mandating it to take over the legislative functions of Rivers State House of Assembly, pending when peace is restored in that state is generating reactions from Stakeholders in Benin City. Taking a cue from the House of Representatives in a bid to restore law and order in Rivers State House of Assembly engulfed by crisis, the senate recently adopted a resolution, empowering it to take over the legislative functions of the state assembly. The senate hinged the action in line with Section 11, sub-section 4 of the 1999 Constitution. Some respondents described the move by the federal lawmakers as a step in the right direction, which they say will go a long way to restoring normalcy in the Rivers State House of Assembly which parades two parallel leadership. They commended the senate for rising up the occasion. Those on the other side of the divide frowned at a situation where the National Assembly would resolve to take over the functions of the key partner. The federal law makers also approved the immediate redeployment of the Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mbu and also recommended that the Inspector General of Police and Chief of Army Staff ensure the restoration of peace and orderliness in Rivers State.
