Senex was awoken by a loud rumbling noise coming from the redhead. Even though there was a thick wall separating the two rooms, the sound of her obsessive snoring was enough to keep anyone within a fifty meter radius awake. I guess the walls arent that thick. Rolling over, Senex moaned into the hard pillow beneath her head. “I will never be able to sleep in these conditions.” She sighed and sat up, fully opening her eyes. A memory surfaced as she examined what she was wearing. A devious smile was stretching over Imbers face as she held up a pair of trousers between her and the dark woman. “No, please, I will do just fine in my own gown.” Senex was backing away with her hands up between the two of them, almost defensively. Her dark vision was shifting between Imbers face and the white garments. “Oh, but I dont think so,” There was a slight glint to her eyes that frightened Senex, “Now, come on, Sen. Itll be fun.” With a deep sigh, Senex stood in the trousers that Imber had forced upon her. They were unusually comfortable, but she refused to admit that. That woman didnt need to know anything else that would give her an edge. She walked over to the dirty window that was facing an empty field behind the abandoned building. The sun was just beginning to rise, laying out pinks and purples over the sky. It was beginning its journey across the morning sky. Something shiny could be seen within the tall grass. However, when Senex focused her acute vision on the reflective object, it was already gone, forever lost to the endless strands of grass. Confusion washed over her face as she raised her hand to the cold glass. “Nothing, I guess,” She mumbled to herself, “I guess Im just becoming too paranoid.” Running her fingers through her long black mane, something felt off. With a gasp, she raced to the closest mirror. Tilting her face to the side, just far enough to see past her ear, she quickly separated the hair to look at the skin there. Tentatively, she once again raced her pale fingers over the scratch marks on her scalp. There were three, from index, middle, and ring fingers. Blood was steadily trickling out of the open wounds, turning her dark hair slightly red in the area, along with her skin. Did I do this to myself, She thought quietly. Pulling her fingers away, and detected the red warmth trickling down them. She noted that were was no dried blood or skin under her own nails. No I did not. A loud knocking resonated through her room. Startled, she pushed her hair back in place and turn around, wiping her hands on the bed sheets. “Are you okay?” A womans voice echoed through the old wood. Senex released the breathe she had been holding. Imber. She remembered that there was someone else in the home with her for a first. She must have been so consumed with the scratches, that she didnt notice the soft treading of Imber getting up. “I heard you gasp and run. Im a light sleeper,” Senex heard muffled nervous laughter from behind the door, “But are you okay, Sen?” Imber repeated again. The dark haired woman opened the door just far enough so that she could show herself, and nothing else. With a fake smile upon her lips, she replied. “Yes,” Senex laughed, “I am well. I thought I heard something, but I didnt. Anyway, if you will excuse me, I will need to be changing back into my dress.” Imber smiled. “Those trousers look swell on you, Sen.” The dark haired girl frowned. She started to shut the door, but it stopped when Imber placed her foot in between the wooden door and the frame. She opened it a little wider this time, not thinking too much about it.“But if you need anything, just let me know, yeah?” She sounded slightly worried but still energetic nonetheless. Her eyes were darting to the bed sheets where Senex had wiped her bloodied fingers off. Senexs fake smile held as her nervousness rose. “Of course,” She said, forcing the door shut. Once she had finished changing she looked at herself in the mirror again. Today, she was adorned in a deep orange velvet dress. She figured with the lighter color, maybe it would decrease the heat on her. However, she knew she was just fooling herself. Nothing would help her escape the high temperatures other than removing layers of clothing. But that is just indecent. She turned her head to the side as she pulled her hair up and she noticed a faint red liquid near her ear. She quickly wiped it away and applied more make up to her face in order to hide it. Putting on her gloves, she opened the door to leave. “Ew!” Imber hissed, “Orange. I hate that bloody color. But it looks great on you!” She gave a small thumbs up. There was another devious glint to her eyes that surprised the darker girl. Senex jumped back. She was startled by the female voice coming from the male figure in front of her. Imber had a wrap holding all of her hair up, except for a few strands that escaped. It was hidden underneath a brown cap. She was wearing a dark gray commoners shirt tucked into some black trousers with knee high socks and clean shoes. She looked like a he. “Do you always go out in public like this?” Senex asked, examining just how much she looked like a male. Think strategically, Senex. With Imber being slightly taller than herself, it would help the two blend in better as a couple. No one would think twice about them, except that Senex looked to be dressed a little nicer than Imber, but that still isnt uncommon for couples. She decided that this would be a good way to get into the ball. Imbers freckled cheeks stretched wide in a smile. “I sure do, Sen.” She pulled her arms behind her back, drawing attention to her chest. Another question rang in Senexs mind. “Also, how are you hiding...” She motioned to her chest. Last she recalled, Imber was making her feel a tad bit sorry for herself in that region. “Oh!” Imber laughed after a few moments of confusion. She unbuttoned the top of her shirt, revealing more white gauze. “I just wrap it up! Now, lets go Sen!” She grabbed her gloved hand and pulled the dark haired girl away, buttoning up her shirt again with her free hand. “Thats not my name!” He watched the two characters escape the old building. He watched them scurry off and quickly blend in with the morning crowd. Nothing of interest going on between them. Taking out his journal, he began to scrawl out in jumbled letters: “Two new visitors. Male. Female. Young, appears to be a couple. No threat. No further investigation.” He snapped the note book closed, and hid away once more. “Lord Juno!” A loud raspy voice came from the other side of the door. “Will you be going out today, your highness?” The maid, he moaned into his pillow. He sat up, wiping a small amount of drool from the corner of his face. “Yes, I will be. I need to-” He stopped himself from saying... Her. Remembrance echoed across his face and his body became rigid. That bloody woman. He haphazardly threw on his commoners clothing, forgetting one sock as he messed up his hair to look dirty so that he may blend in with other boys on the streets. He opened the door, stopping just before he slammed the old wood into the scrawny maids face. Quickly racing down the hall, housemaid after housemaid would stop him, to fix his attire, but he would bat them away. “I need to leave,” He would say as he rushed past. Eventually, after struggling with countless women, he was able to escape and race down the street. Junos eyes were searching frantically from face to face. There were tons of women who had dark hair, a similar build, but none were her. After a half hour of searching, his hope began to drop lower and lower. Maybe Ive forgotten what she looks like and Ive already passed her. A dejected look came over his face as he sat down on a patch of grass. Shes probably already gone. I guess I wont get to ask her. He buried his face in his palms. All of this rushing for nothing. Oh well, I guess I should head back. Arriving back in his home, he was greeted by his mother, the Queen Celestia. Her long white hair was tied back at the sides, allowing her curls to flow over her shoulder and back, trailing down to her waist. She was adorned in a white gown that was laced with gold around the ends of he sleeves, the neck like, and the bottom. Her bright blue eyes bore into her son. She smiled. “Juno, welcome home. Did you have an eventful day?” Her harmonious voice filled the empty hall that they were in. This was all just small talk, he could tell. She had something else she wanted to say. He walked up next to her and she began to escort him towards his room. “No, mother. I did not. I set out to find a woman, but I failed.” He lowered his head. Misinterpreting it, the corner of the Queens mouth turned up slightly. “Oh my. Is my child growing?” She turned to him. “Oh dont be so vulgar, mother. There was a woman yesterday who recognized me as a lord in my commoners clothing. I was just going to inquire how she knew. That is all, and nothing more.” They arrived in front of his door. He opened it for her, and after she went in, he shut the door behind himself. “You know, we are having a ball tonight. It will be held in a few hours. I actually came to make sure you would be dressed. She could possibly attend if she is of a higher status.” She sat upon his bed, watching him walk around the room. He took off his shirt, and went to grab another, but froze when he heard her words. A slow smile spread across his face. “Mother, you are brilliantly beautiful!” He raced over and kissed her cheek. “Yes, yes, I know. Always have been.” She stood up and began to leave. “Thats the reason your father married me.” The words stung Junos chest, and Celestia froze, instantly regretting the words. She mumbled an apology as she exited the room, allowing him to change. The ball will be tonight.
