Setting the record straight. A sign says that I voted against - TopicsExpress

Setting the record straight. A sign says that I voted against teacher raises. This is incorrect. I support teachers and staff. At the 4/23/2013 board meeting: 1. I fought for pay raises for all employees, not just for teachers. 2. I voted against removing recognition of the Gilbert Education Association from the Memorandum of Understanding. I believe that people have a right to organize to make their voices heard. 3. I voted against putting the Memorandum of Understanding into Policy. If this needed to be done, as Ms. Burk stated, it should have been done through an open and collaborative decision-making process before being approved by the board. Other ways that I have stood up for teachers and support staff: 1. I have championed an open and collaborative decision-making process. 2. As a private citizen, I campaigned for the last two overrides; an essential part of district funding that provides parity with what charter schools are receiving from the state. 3. I refused to participate in “the list” and warned that a consequence would be the loss of personnel. 4. I have fought for the right to vote on recommendations of the superintendent rather than allow the acting board president to dominate by removing names from the consent agenda. 5. I have visited all 40 schools and talked with principals, teachers, and staff to know the impact of board decisions. 6. I build trust and relationships by meeting with employees, valuing their expertise, and listening to their point of view. 7. As a candidate, I am endorsed by the Gilbert Education Association.
