Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of WMass CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – In a summer filled with severe weather, western Massachusetts is once again dealing with heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for west central Berkshire County until 4:30 p.m. and Hampden County until 5:00 p.m. At 4:09 p.m., the NWS Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail. This storm was located over Monson, or 8 miles east of Springfield, and was moving southeast at 20 mph.
