Shady FB friends: Ive had this car for the past year or so that I technically dont own b/c the previous owner never officially had the title. They owed ~30 bucks on it but the credit union they initially got the loan from was bought out by a bank, which was bought out by another bank, and now no one has the initial title. I was told by the DMV to do a bunch of stuff (official letter sent to the original office of the credit union, which was returned, filled out paperwork, gave the DMV the letter saying business isnt open anymore). Now theyre telling me that I cant register the vehicle until I get a motor vehicle bond from an insurance company assessing the worth of the vehicle. Problem is, the bond is going to cost more than the like $300 the actual piece of shit car is worth. Ive already paid all the fees to get it registered, so its technically in my name, but they cant provide the actual registration until I get the bond, which I dont want to do. Im buying a new car today. Besides filing a non-op on the car, is there anything I can do? I cant junk it b/c I dont have the title. Would rather not shave down the VINs and leave it on the side of the road.
