Shanes Jukebox - Man In Black and Gods Gonna Cut You Down by Johnny Cash. I have a confession to make that my revoke my Music Lovers card. Ive only just learned to appreciate Johnny Cash in the latest 1/4th of my life. When the Joaquin Phoenix movie came out in 05, I enjoyed it so much that I went back and dug into the real mans career. I was certainly aware of and didnt ~hate~ Cash music before that moment, but I ~loved~ Cash music afterward. During a recent conversation about country music (and my compulsive distaste for it), Johnny was brought up as one of the best in the genre. I said it then and Ill say it again - it may have shades and flavors of it, but I dont think his music properly fits into the country genre, nor any OTHER genre for that matter. He was his own style, and that style is absolutely essential listening in order to have a well-rounded appreciation of popular music. Here are two gems, both of which highlight his moodiness but also his big heart for the suffering of others. Man In Black needs no introduction, but Gods Gonna Cut You Down is one that Leighanne recommended that I hadnt given much consideration before tonight, and now its on my Only the Best playlist, so Thanks!
