Shared by Amber Payne, RDH This is a 90 year old patient that presented as a new patient who hadnt been to a dentist in years. Her radiographs revealed heavy subgingival calculus that was very tenacious to remove at her first appointment. She would benefit from scaling and root planning however she is uninterested; therefore Amber will be seeing her in a series of 1 hour appointments every 5 months. After seeing a blurry object on the bitewing distal to #3, a PA was taken. The PA revealed an unerupted wisdom tooth with almost the entire crown decayed. It appears the decay started on the distal root of #3 and spread into the wisdom tooth since its impacted against it. Extraction is indicated, however has not been scheduled. What do you do when a patient declines treatment due to their age?
