[Shared from Haligonia.ca on Facebook] 2:45 AM ADT Wednesday 02 July 2014 Tropical cyclone information statement for: NEW BRUNSWICK NEWFOUNDLAND NOVA SCOTIA PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND For tropical storm Arthur. The next statement will be issued by 9:00 AM ADT. Tropical storm Arthur east of Florida forecast to parallel the U.S. East Coast as a hurricane this week - may play a role in Atlantic Canada weather this weekend. We are analyzing the development of tropical storm Arthur and latest computer model forecasts to gain an early indication of how the storm may affect weather in Atlantic Canada this weekend. The tropical storm is expected to intensify to hurricane intensity as it moves slowly northeastward not far off the U.S. East Coast. A trough of low pressure will be moving eastward from the Great Lakes, guiding Arthur toward Atlantic Canada. At this point the likelihood is for an offshore track which would lead to a primarily rain event over land. However it really is too early to rule-out a direct impact - the nature of the trough approaching from the Great Lakes will make all the difference in Arthurs intensity and track as it moves northeastward. Most computer models develop Arthur into a hurricane, so it appears likely that we will need to keep an eye on the storm this week. Therefore, the Canadian Hurricane Centre will be monitoring the weather patterns closely for the next several days with the first full forecast package planned for later this morning or afternoon.
