There are two ways to persuade: 1./ by education, reason and evidence, or, 2./ by indoctrination, threats and violence. When Einstein initially met the skepticism of colleagues regarding Relativity he didnt threaten them with hellfire. He knew it was simply a matter of time and dogged perseverance to prove his truth. Hell is a substitute for reason and evidence for ideologues who can support their claims with neither. Its an attempt by religious patriarchs to protect their authority, power and privilege from the threatening challenges of reason by terrifying the mind into unquestioning obedience. It proposes that the universe is run by an infinitely sadistic Überthug, a kind of cosmic Hitler or Saddam – who is the embodiment of perfect goodness, whatever the frig thats supposed to mean. In reality hell is a declaration of moral and intellectual bankruptcy. And face it: according to the theists were all going there. Christians go to Muslim hell, Muslims go to Christian hell, etc., - which of course is the point of the above meme. Were all in one God or anothers black book.
