Sharing the conversation about work that T.R. McKenzie is doing and his view of the difference between resistance and environmentalism. I share this not only because it reflects productive thinking about our efficacy in this struggle, but also because I believe we need to change the way we think about our society and the many struggles that we face. Be it the way men think about their position and language relative to womens struggles. Be it the way Whites think about their position and language relative to Black, Brown, and Native struggles. Be it the way straight/cis people view themselves relative to gender and orientation constructions and struggles. Be it Class, Ableism, or the many otherized struggles. Bottom-line: (I/)We need to step it up (and I believe our tolerance/complacency needs to go down). I know that I have sacrificed a lot, as far as acceptance/social opinions, finances, stability, health, emotional capacity; and I often wonder how I can escalate to be of more service, because more is needed and lives are lost every day.
