Shaving and cutting whiskers is a big Show fad that has unfortunately caught on and is never questions. Barn dwellers loves to tell new people why they should trim for looks. Horses need their chin whiskers to feel the ground when they eat, to help judge distance. They need their Eye whiskers to help warn them when they are too close to object to trigger the eye close response and to prevent eye damage. They need their Ear whiskers to keep bugs our, keep water out and the use the wind to help direct the ear to or from blowing dust, pollen or other objects. Trimming is selfish and ego driven for others to impress show judges or show types. People always ask why I dislike showing horses or racing horses or sport horses, it is because they always bring negative things to the horse. PS: I wont mention the metal buckle - those who know me, know why.
