Shelley Drier posted a story which reminded me of a true one of Mom, which happened when she was first admitted to URVH. She was in considerable pain with a bad headache, late one night. Her buzzer had fallen on the floor. She tried to call the nurses but was too far from the station to be heard. She picked up her cup from her table and threw it...no response. Then she took matters into her own hands. She dialled directory assistance. The conversation went something like this: BOB : Bell Alliant this is Bob how may I direct your call? MOM: Hello Bob this is Margaret and I have a terrible headache. BOB: Im very sorry to hear that maam how can I help you? MOM: I have dropped my buzzer and I cant get anyone to help me. BOB: Well now maam Im going to try and help you. Where are you calling from? MOM: Im in Waterville. BOB: Well Maam I am in Halifax where is Waterville? MOM: Its just north of Woodstock in New Brunswick. Im in the hospital. BOB: Well Margaret I am going to help you. What floor are you on? MOM: Im on the second floor. Could you get one of the nurses for me.? BOB: Id be happy to. The next moment an incredulous nurse appeared at her door and Bob wished her the best and said good night. She always wished she could have sent him a card. She never lost her marbles or her resourcefulness.
