Shooting for that elusive high-rep set of push-ups or pull-ups? Much of training is about tricking the body into doing things it doesnt think are possible. Oftentimes, that big number we have in our heads -- be it 20 pull-ups or 50 push-ups -- is just plain intimidating. Switching up the way we count our reps can make a seemingly gargantuan task much easier psychologically. Here are four of my favorite counting schemes: 1. Count in sets of 5 (1-2-3-4-5, 2-2-3-4-5, 3-2-3-4-5...) 2. Double count (1-1-2-2-3-3-4-4-5-5...) 3. Count up then down (1-2-...-9-10-10-9-...-2-1) 4. Count backwards (20-19-18-17-16...) These counting methods are also great for pure strength athletes who are afraid of numbers higher than, say, 6. #letmegetmyabacus
