Shorelines often offer magnificent scenery often difficult to see, especially along rugged coastlines like the area of northern Scotland. Sea kayaking is one of the best ways to travel a coastline and see its wonders. The sport has evolved to a point where now anyone can participate because of advanced equipment, instruction, clubs and knowledge about how to navigate these waters in a sea kayak. The photos below were taken by sea kayakers in northern Scotland exploring islands and fjords called lochs. There were formed partly by the glaciers in the ice age. Northern Scotland lies at 60 degrees latitude, the same as Juneau Alaska, but because of the gulf stream is much warmer as is most of Europe. There is a theory that global warming could cause gulf stream reversal which could cause Europe to become much colder in the future. There is controversy about the theory. Would countries be able to continue to survive under these frigid conditions? Well, enjoy the beauty and culture that Europe has to offer. Even if it did happen, it would not occur for many centuries.
