Showtime is currently showing a very interesting documentary on Burning Man, a 7day event in the northern Nevada desert held annually. Also great insight on its founders and mangers. A near tragic incident in 1996 forced the organizers to reassess and restructure the festival to keep it successful. Im not sure if at any time people were allowed to just show up and attend but now its $400 a person with additional fees per vehicle. One of the mangers made a statement about being just a spectator was not allowed and all attendees are required to contribute in one form or another. How would that even be enforced? The website displays the 10 principles to live by but seems kind of contradictory to the original spirit of dissolution of law and order and breaking the bonds of society. Then again I could be wrong which has been known to happen....often. So now the organizers provide a service of a safe and secure environment for which the public purchases to participate in stage productions, live music and enjoy a wide array of art. A the end impressive, well crafted effigies are torched and burnt to the ground. Profits were generated to respond to increasing demand but the organization has filed for non profit status. Dont tell any one but they followed to the letter the foundational principles of free market capitalism and its kept them going strong
