Silent Sunday Pt. 51! Wow, now this is a hot Sunday!!! I just literally came back home from a great weekend of Dew-Scented shows with Sacred Reich and welcome you to the 51th edition of this little “Silent Sunday” blog. Honoring the peaking summer temperatures, I would like to share some good vibes courtesy of Swedish Heavy Rock Doomsters Terra Firma / https://myspace/terrafirmasweden Originally started as side project in 1995 by former members of Unleashed/Loudpipes (Guitarist Fredrik “Fredda” Lindgren, aka Freddie Eugene) and Count Raven (Vocalist Christian Linderson, aka Lord Chritus) as well as a later Entombed/Entombed A.D. member (Bassist Nico Elgstrand, aka Nico Moosebeach), it was already their first demo recording in 1996 (of which 2 out of 3 songs were later released as “Rock ‘n’ Roll Superior” 7” EP) that had me sold on Terra Firma. Especially the opening track “Rainbow Ride” happened to be a self-made compilations favourite of mine around that time and its infectious hippiesque riffing as well as the melancholic and early Black Sabbath Ozzy-trademark vocals by Christian Linderson (who also sang on Saint Vitus’ “C.O.D.” album from 1992) haven’t lost any of their appeal throughout the years, as I just noticed a few minutes ago ;-) That said, Terra Firma unfortunately always remained rather underground, despite signing to SteamHammer Records / SPV to release a self-titled debut in 1999 and its (bit weaker) follow up “Harms Way” in 2001. The band somehow lacked (live) activity and also the Rock/Doom revival wasn’t in (full) effect yet, so that sadly not many people took notice of the great qualities of Terra Firma. They eventually split up again in 2003, morphing into Harms Way as follow-up band, but with a slightly different stylistic touch… Terra Firma’s obscure note was once again underlined by the fact that there seems to be almost no official online data for them and I couldn’t even track down a solid streaming link to “Rainbow Ride” in its awesome demo/7” version, which actually blows away the later album re-recording of the same song (which I am now posting…).
