Since finding out more about the RNLI the seafarers hymn Eternal Father, strong to Save has been going round in my head so I tried to find out a bit more about it. I discovered that additional verses have been penned over the years for service personnel and others and the words of those verses are lovely.... For those who have army and air force connections here are two of my favourites: Lord, guard and guide the men who fly Through the great spaces in the sky, Be with them always in the air, In darkning storms or sunlight fair. O, Hear us when we lift our prayer, For those in peril in the air. Lord, guard and guide the men who fly And those who on the ocean ply; Be with our troops upon the land, And all who for their country stand: Be with these guardians day and night And may their trust be in thy might. -- author unknown, about 1955
