Since learning about Megaesophagus and the great work of Bailey Chairs 4 dogs, Im very suspicious our Lucca had ME secondary to other health issues as a puppy. The description and symptoms are classic in thinking back to years spent repeatedly treating our urpy dog for aspiration pneumonia after regurgitating. Lucca was diagnosed with a PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) and required heart surgery at 13 weeks, his brother also had the same defect and surgery. The surgery was pretty intense considering the boys were cut open across the entire left side of their tiny bodies, but it was worth it to prevent the inevitable heart failure facing PDA puppies. These days its extraordinarily rare for Lucca to regurgitate, hes 7 years old and strong as can be. Seasonal allergies are his nemesis. Someday I will dig up those post op pics for you, what a cute little Frankenpuppy. Anyway, back to Bailey Chairs! I thought Id share their wonderful overview of the disease AND toot a horn for how generous these folks are. If you want to support a sweet and straightforward cause, help out Bailey Chairs 4 Dogs as they donate these truly helpful tools that save lives. Thanks for checking them out!
