Sisters Must Read This Post Completly --->> Is it Permissible for a Woman to Pray With a Short Garment???? or with out socks ..??? Questioner: Our teacher, many women go to the masjid for prayer without socks, they perform their prayer without socks. Shaikh Al-Albani: Whether they go or not (to the masjid) their prayer in their houses without socks is an invalid prayer. Questioner: Even in the house? Shaikh Al-Albani: Even in the house, so how about the masjid? Questioner: May Allah reward you. Shaikh Al-Albani: And you also. Another Questioner: Even if she completely covers her feet? Shaikh Al-Albani: How do you imagine that she covers her feet? In the present day there are no women who drag their garments (because of it being long), but if you can picture this case then the prayer is correct, and the issue is that her feet are uncovered, however if her feet are covered, for example: her dress is loose and long where it covers her feet, then this is what is wanted from the women when she prays in her home or in the masjid, but sadly today women don’t have long clothing. Questioner: Ok, do the socks cover, O teacher? Shaikh Al-Albani: The socks cover and don’t cover. They cover the color of the skin, but they don’t cover the shape of the foot, therefore from the conditions of the garment that covers the private parts for men – aside from women – is that it is not transparent where the color of the skin is visible, and it is not tight where it defines the body part. So the garment is not permissible unless it contains these two characteristics, it’s not transparent and not tight. Questioner: Ok, do the socks define the body part? Shaikh Al-Albani: Absolutely, they define. Questioner: Ok, how do they cover in prayer? Shaikh Al-Albani: With time they cover; they cover and don’t cover. And I explained to you in detail how they cover and don’t cover. Questioner: Meaning, the woman must wear socks in prayer? Shaikh Al-Albani: I said, and I am still saying – she must cover her feet with a loose and wide garment, as for the socks they cover and they don’t cover, my words are clear. Questioner: Is it better to wear socks? Shaikh Al-Albani: If her garment is long […] if her garment is long where it covers her feet whether she wears socks or not, what is meant is a covering that is not tight or transparent. Socks without a garment over them define the body part, but they cover the skin color and this is not enough, so it is necessary for the garment to cover the color and the shape. Questioner: Our teacher, in regards to nullification of the prayer, but they don’t have knowledge of these things. Shaikh Al-Albani: Yes, they don’t have knowledge but they can learn, so if they learn and remain lenient then their prayer is invalid. Tape 4 of “Silsilat al Huda wan Noor” Translated by Abu Musa Muhammad Sulieman Internet Source : Posted on West_London_Dawah@yahoogroups -------------------------------------------------------- 2Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If a woman wears pants or loose khuff (leather slippers), and the jilbab hangs over it so that the shape of the foot cannot be seen, this achieves the purpose, unlike the tight khuff (leather slippers) which shows the shape of the foot, because this is worn by men. {Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa, 22/148 } -------------------------------------------------------- 3 Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It is permissible for a woman to let her garment down below the ankles. In fact this is what is prescribed for women, so that they may cover their feet. Covering the feet is something that is prescribed for women and is in fact obligatory for them according to many scholars. What a woman should do is cover her feet, either with her garment which is long and covers them or by wearing socks or shoes and the like. { Fataawa al-Mar’ah al-Muslimah, 1/437 } ---------------------------------------------------------- 4 Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The entire woman is ‘awrah when she is praying, apart from her face. The scholars differed with regard to the hands. Some of them said it is obligatory to cover them, and others said it is allowed to leave them uncovered. The matter is broad in scope, in sha Allaah, but it is better to cover them so as to avoid an area of scholarly disagreement. As for the feet, it is obligatory to cover them when praying, according to the majority of scholars. End quote. { Majmoo’ Fataawa Ibn Baaz, 10/410 } --------------------------------------------------------- Daleel :: With Regards to Covering Feet Outside Home.. :: 1.A woman asked Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): I am a woman whose garment drags, and I may walk through a dirty place. Umm Salamah said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “That which comes after it purifies it.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (143), Abu Dawood (383) and Ibn Maajah (531). The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani inSaheeh Abi Dawood, 407. 2. It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever lets his garment drag out of pride, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection.” Umm Salamah said: What should women do with their hems? He said: “They should let them down a hand span.” She said: Then their feet will show. He said: “Then let it down a cubit, but no more than that.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1731); he said: This is a saheeh hasan hadeeth. Also narrated by al-Nasaa’i (5336). The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani inal-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1864. So it is not permissible for the woman to wear open shoes which show her feet. But if her clothes are long and she wears socks, there is nothing wrong with that, although it is better for her to cover the feet with the garment and not with socks. ----------------------------------------------------------- With Regards To Covering Feet In Prayers.. :: The free woman who has attained the age of majority is obliged to cover her entire body during prayer, apart from her face and hands,. If she prays and any part of her ‘awrah becomes uncovered, such as a shin or foot or all or part of her head, then her prayer is invalid, because the Prophet said: Allaah will not accept the prayer of a woman who has started to menstruate, except with a khimaar (covering) (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Maajah and al-Tirmidhi, with a saheeh isnaad) Shaykh al-Albānī [] said: It is not permissible for her to pray with her feet uncovered, indeed it is not allowed for her to walk in the streets with her feet uncovered, because the feet are part of the Aawrah of a woman.
