Sketch for Marija. Ink pen 10 X 10 Marija never really liked me. Not that I ever did anything wrong to merit her dismissal! Since childhood, she would not acknowledge my existence. And then, a few months ago, we meet by accident, at the Bus terminus. After a few awkward moments I asked whether she would have tea with me. To my surprise she said yes. We chatted for what seemed like hours. I had been overseas, she married, divorced and the usual disasters. Then I asked why she had given me a cold shoulder all these years. It seems, when we were children she had a crush on me and I had dismissed her and spent time with her cousin. We were 10 years old then…. I could not even remember the incident or, to tell the truth, her cousin! But I do remember the day I fell in love with her 18 years later. We were both married to others; I was on the cusp of a change in life, just divorced and not looking for a new partner. She was happily hanging arm in arm with the man she would eventually cheat on her and leave her for a younger lady. That was the day I knew love really exists. She looked down her nose at me with narrowed eyes and I knew she did not believe my pleas of innocence. For long seconds her eyes bored into mine trying to torture out the real truth! I shuffled a little under her gaze but held my psychological ground. Then we both broke into laughter.. 40 years too late… or is it!
