So Catherine Guggenheimer Pearlman and I have talked extensively - TopicsExpress

So Catherine Guggenheimer Pearlman and I have talked extensively about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge—is it great because its raised money and awareness? Does it trivialize an awful disease? Is it a creation of the modern ego, where everyone wants their 15 seconds on camera? Ultimately, I think its been worthwhile and beneficial. I also, however, think its important to remember that ALS is absolutely, positively awful—a very real, very heartbreaking disease that kills all it touches. In 2013 I conducted a Quaz Q&A with Adrian Dessi, father of my pals Mark Dessi and Chris Dessi. He explained, in great detail, how ALS breaks a person down, and what its like to live every day both full-minded but in constant decay. Almost all of the Q&As Ive done are merely fun and trivial. This one, to me, is genuinely important. Especially now, with ALS a topic. jeffpearlman/the-quaz-qa-adrian-dessi/
