So I am on the bus on my way to work and the bus is simi-packed. A young lady with her son gets on the bus. There is a seat available right in front of me and one right beside me. The young lady sits in front of me and her son next to me. As the bus departs the son starts talking to me. Nothing major just general conversation and I must say he is very well spoken. Well anyway as we are talking the mother turns to him and tells him to stop talking my ear off, I tell her that he is fine and that I dont mind the conversation. She then gets this look of absolute disgust over her face. She then says to her son loud enough for the people in our general vicinity to hear, Boy come sit on my lap cause this nigga sounds gay and I dont want that shit rubbing off on you, youre already soft enough as it is. Now it took everything within me to not get ignorant with her. I did however ask her why she assumed that I was gay. Her response and I quote you talk all good and shit and you are dressed nice as hell, aint no way that you are straight. My response to her was, just because I choose to look like something when I leave my house instead of looking like I live on the streets doesnt mean anything. Yes I do speak with proper English and proper diction due to the fact that I went to school and I am a educated black male. You do happen to be correct that I am gay however dont allow my proper usage of the English language and sense of fashion give you that information as if it is any of your business anyway, but rather allow that to be information that I choose to tell you if I feel fit too. There are plenty of straight men that look, talk, and act just as I do and they dont do anything any differently then I do. Lastly be careful of the ignorance that you pass along to your child because one someone may pass judgement on him just as you did to myself.
