So I couldnt help myself and went on a bit of a rant on youtube when I saw this comment about the new Maleficent trailer... cognis05 2 hours ago Disney basically stole the idea from Wicked, to retell a story portraying the original villain as a good guy. Real original. Plus, Maleficents costume looks ridiculous. They didnt try to make it look believable, they just literally put the cartoon costume onto a person. And Anjelina is, im sorry to say, a boring actress. She doesnt know how to portray a character, shes just herself in all of her roles. And of course, theres the overuse of cg in the film, where they couldve practically made the whole movie in a computer because it looks so fake. This movie is guaranteed to be terrible, joining the ranks of Oz the Great and Powerful. Disney, please stop ruining movies. Reply · Ian Greene 20 minutes ago HEY! I liked Oz the Great and Powerful. Reply · LJ Yenchik 1 second ago Where did you get the idea that Maleficent is being portrayed as a good guy in this flick? I think were suppose to be able to relate to the character, to root for her even though we know shes destined to lose. Originality? Its very difficult to find something original when you compare films based upon broad generalizations. Why dont we just compare the character of Maleficent to Hannibal Lector, or this film to Dances With Wolves while were at it? I dont understand your problem with the costume either. What would have been better, a jumpsuit and a cape that doesnt touch the ground? A headband with horn accents? While not every iconic costume should be portrayed accurately in film, were not talking about ridiculous masks or yellow spandex here. If anything, the resemblance to the cartoon costume is a very good thing, its what gives the character such presence in the original film. And its cool if you dont like Angelina Jolie, I feel the same way you do about Keanu Reeves, Vin Diesel, Bill Murray, Morgan Freeman, etc. You get the idea, to each their own when it comes to actors. And Im tired of people complaining about the amount of cgi in films these days! Would you be happy if Transformers had used scale model sets and stop-motion animation of the toys for its vfx? A spider-man that only did a gymnastics routine and got around on ziplines instead of webbing? How about Maleficent just holds out her hand for her magic while victims pretend to choke to death Darth Vader-style? More cgi doesnt make a better movie, but a lack thereof doesnt make a more believable film either. If zero cgi was used in the film would you believe the events actually happened, or that this kingdom really existed somewhere? I also fail to see how Disney is ruining movies. Are they ruined because you didnt like them? What does Maleficent take away from the animated Sleeping Beauty? What does Oz the Great and Powerful take away from The Wizard of Oz? These arent reboots of the originals. Can they be bad movies? Absolutely, but I dont think Disney can be considered to be ruining movies just because youre always disappointed. Is it lonely up there, on your pedestal, you Jay Sherman-wannabe?
