So I got a very I Know What You Did Last Summer weird prank call last night. I actually missed the call. They left a voicemail. Actually they didnt know what I did last summer. The speaker just put on an eerie voice and said they were gonna get me. This has happened in the past: when Ive published books, when one of them was announced as being turned into a movie. They always come from within my own community. Before my grandmother died last year, she told me she had received a phone call when my first novel came out, from a woman who claimed I was the father of her child. I attribute this kind of ridiculousness to living in a poverty stricken region where people think you must be ballin if you publish a book, and they dont know better. But last nights caller was just creepy, which they have never been before. Im trying to figure out if its worth reporting or not. I mean, at this point, I have a smartphone (which I didnt in the past) and the number is right there, with the voicemail. I already tracked it myself to an address. Im assuming its kids this time who were just punching in numbers, having fun, but Im not sure if I should report it, to at least have a paper trail in case things get weirder. Ok, maybe this post is a public report, just in case I disappear in the next few days! Check my voicemail! ;)
