So I got this remarkable letter from the school written by the Chicken Egg when he attended his senior retreat in January. Reading what he wrote just showed how genuinely proud of me he is. I pray and hope to uave at least half the qualities you have. I think that will be magnificent a line from his letter... Importantly, what dawn on me from this letter is that in my own way, by allowing myself to be a priority, I have taught him how important it is to maintain ones identity. That your needs as a person does not stop as soon as you become a mother. Nevertheless, I am painfully aware that my desire to keep my own needs on the table and my identity somehow intact is often perceived as selfish in a mother. I believe being humble, patient, generous, and selfless are great qualities to have. Perhaps its the fact that these qualities are internalised and emphasized as being more important for women than they are for men that gets me confused. Arent we all humans??? What bothers me is the subtle messages that perpetuate the notion that being a good woman who puts her needs last is what every girl should aspire. I am ambitious. I have worked extremely hard, falling out of balance at times to pursue my goals. Sometimes it makes me extremely uncomfortable especially coming from a society where ambition is frowned upon in females, so it feels good to be raising a son who understands that no matter what stage we are in life, maintainence of your identity as a whole person matters. #PROUDMUM #THINKONTHIS
