So I keep my Facebook pretty much as a catalog of great experiences Ive had and try to remove putting much of my personal life other than photos up on here. Im going to break that rule. This video is from my trip to Madison Square Garden to see Bassnectar with some of the most righteous people Ive had the privilege to call friends on one of the most impulsive and life affirming trips Ive ever had. When I found this video and watched it, the goosebumps that it gave me were unreal. It took me right back into that moment. This song, when I first heard it, I tried to attach a certain meaning to the lyrics. You and Me against the World seemed like an incredibly romantic notion that I believed is exactly what the beauty of this song had in mind - even if what Bassnectar wrote in an article was different. He always encourages people to attach their own emotions and find their own meanings in songs. I thought I did and it wasnt until later that I realized this wasnt the meaning at all and just how wrong I was. For those who know me Ive been having a rough go of things the last couple of months. For reasons beyond the obvious, a lot of things were getting to me and it all kind of felt like it was coming to a head. I dealt with some seriously all around bad feelings just about what was going on and about myself and really couldnt see the silver lining to much of anything. It was in this time that I really found out who those friends are that care about you the most. Its super easy to be around Super Dave when Im bouncy and smiling and having a blast with great people. Who doesnt want to have a good time? Its when my company became more trouble than it was worth that I really found out who cares about me the most. Who asked how are you doing? and actually WANTED to hear my response. I was surprised by some of who and who didnt. It kind of puts things into a new perspective... an understanding of how others care and whos truly genuine. I dont fault people for not being overly involved.. I never would. Its no ones job to carry me but me. A lot of people talk about being you being able to count on them when the going gets tough and Im fortunate to have so many beautiful people like that in my life... Im truly blessed and I see that now. Ive had a lot of amazing times lately. TomorrowWorld was an incredible celebration of life, which I followed with Madison Square Garden. This last week I got to see Bassnectar, Skrillex and the opportunity meet and work with the The Glitch Mob as part of their Mob Team here in Columbus. Thanks to my friends Ive been able to realize the true meaning of the song in this video.. and he hit it straight on point. I chose this video of the song because this was my crystallizing moment.. This exact performance. This was the moment that I truly saw that the emotional attachment I had forced on this song was all wrong. It was in that arena that, with a tornado of confetti and a sea of friends dancing around me that I finally really understood what Bassnectar meant when he said: While I love each song for its own individual personality and details, I feel that You & Me is my anthem, Bassnectar tells Rolling Stone. Its a love song, but its about friendship and family. Its about those basic human bonds of trust and loyalty, the feeling you get when you have a friend who will stand by you through thick and thin, no matter what, until the end. Heres to many more excellent journeys ahead with some of the best people Ive ever had the privilege to know..
