So, I log in to facebook and find 23 notifications. My first thought was: Oh S#!t!!! I think someone hacked my account and has probably made some compromising changes to my profile details which have probably entertained a lot of people at the expense of my dignity. Unfortunately, I discovered it is something much worse as Mr. Hemant & Mr. Khwaja have tagged me to some post and want me to spent 10 precious mins out of my lazy evening to make a list of 10 books that have had an impact on me. Well, here you go(Caution: Some are boring Non-fiction books that many would rather skip than read): 1. Atlas Shrugged- Ayn Rand: The No.1 book on my list any given day. DAnconias speech after someone at a party says money is the root of all evil is the best piece of literature I have come across. 2. The Fountainhead-Ayn Rand: Another one of Ayn Rands classics. I fell in love with it after reading the very first para. A must read for someone who would love a story about people who cannot lose against people who have always won. 3. Good to Great-Jim Collins: An amazing scientific look at the best companies in the world in an attempt to find the quintessential difference between Good & great. A great business book for someone interested in Business-Non Fiction. 4. Built-to Last-Jim Collin: Another brilliant Business book on Companies that will endure the test of time and reasons behind it. If you look at it today, you might find that the book was wrong about a lot of things, but the thought-process involved in writing the book is just incredible. 5. Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson: A book written in the honest way possible about a man who is an enigma to so many. The best thing is that Walter writes it just the way it is suppose to be and leaves it to readers to understand Steve Jobs the way they want to. 6. Autobiography of Lee Iacocca: A nice book about an automotive mastermind. I read this one is 9th standard and was my first tryst with the world of marketing. 7. The Accidental Prime Minister-Sanjaya Baru: A genuine and neutral insight into the life of Dr. Manmohan Singh as PM during UPA-1 & 2 by the then PM Media Advisor and former ET Chief Editor Sanjaya Baru. Nice to see someone who had direct access to Dr. Singh write so wisely. 8. Midnights Children-Salman Rushdie: A beautifully written book and an absolute delight to your senses. I do not mean disrespect to anyone, but anyone who thinks Chetan Bhagat is a good writer should atleast read the first 5 chapters of this book and pay attention to the magic Rushdie weaves around words. 9. The trial-Kafka: If I ever acquire the talent to write books, I would like to write something like The trial. I hope someday Ill learn german and read the original. 10. Animal Farm: A brilliant novel laced with political innuendos that will leave you thinking much after youve finished it. So thats it. I have no one to nominate as frankly I dont know many people who read novels/books on a regular basis. I think its time to get better friends. :/
